The female body is a precious pearl that must be hidden and protected, and that is why, according to the canons of the Islamic religion, a woman is obliged to cover her body. There is a direct indication of this from the Holy Quran. Allah Almighty says:
O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believing men to draw veils over themselves, so that they will be easily distinguished [from slave girls and prostitutes] and will not be wronged. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” [Quran 33:59]
There are several types of clothing for Muslim women: hijab , niqab , burqa , chador , jilbab , abaya , khimar and burkini . Let's look at each of them.
Hijab is generally considered to be the headscarf worn by many Muslim women, but hijab is more than just a head covering. It also means covering the entire body, except for the face and hands, in loose-fitting clothing made of opaque fabric.
The niqab is a women's head covering that covers the face, with a narrow slit for the eyes. The niqab is combined with other types of clothing, such as a chador or abaya. This type of clothing is typical for the Persian Gulf countries, Yemen and Pakistan.
A burqa is a long veil that completely covers the body and face, including the eyes. The eye slit is covered with a dense mesh - chachvan. It is worth noting that this type of clothing is typical for the countries of Central Asia and Afghanistan. Also, today, the burqa is considered the most radical type of Muslim clothing.
The chador is a long veil that covers the entire body from head to toe. The chador is not attached to clothing and women often hold it up with their hands. The face is not covered, but if desired, a Muslim woman can cover it with the edge of her veil. Very often, the chador is worn in combination with a niqab, which makes it much easier to wear. It is widespread mainly in Iran.
Jilbab is a one-piece garment for Muslim women that covers the entire body, leaving only the hands, feet and eyes uncovered. Nowadays, the concept of jilbab has been slightly transformed and is more suited to the definition of outerwear.
Abaya is a long women's dress with sleeves, not belted. Abayas are often decorated with various embroidery, beads and lace.
Khimar is a cloak that does not cover the face, but covers the hair, ears, shoulders and reaches the waist. It is common in the Middle East and Turkey.
The Burkini is a swimsuit for Muslim women designed by Lebanese designer Aheda Zanetti. It is made of 100% polyester and complies with all Sharia requirements, as it covers the head and has a loose silhouette.
Of course, when talking about clothing, it should be noted that hijab is also a manifestation of modesty, and this is one of the qualities of a believing woman that helps to preserve her honor, dignity and status. A Muslim woman is modest both in her behavior and in her clothing. It is also important to note that wearing a hijab has a number of advantages:
TERMS OF HIJAB
Based on the above, we can note the basic conditions for wearing the hijab:
- Clothing must cover the entire body except the face and hands;
- It should not serve as decoration and attract the attention of men, and bright, glowing colors should also be avoided;
- It is not allowed to wear clothes made of transparent fabric;
- Tight clothing is also not allowed;
- Should not have the smell of perfume, so as not to attract the attention of the opposite sex;
- Women's clothing that resembles men's clothing is also prohibited, since it is not permissible for a woman to imitate men.
WHAT COLOR SHOULD THE HIJAB BE?
Today, in our society, Muslim women face the problem of choosing the color of clothing. Most girls and women, especially those who have just converted to Islam, begin to wear black clothes, which causes a negative attitude towards them from society. Many of them claim that this is established by religion. In fact, there are no hadiths indicating that a woman is supposed to wear only black or that black is a sunnah. On the contrary, the hadiths contain reports that the female companions wore clothes of various colors. For example, in the hadith cited in the collection "Sahih" Bukhari, hadith 5825, transmitted by Ikrima, it is said that some female companions wore a green hijab. In another narration, it is said that once the wives of the Prophet ﷺ were seen wearing red.
From the above it can be understood that women are allowed to wear any color of clothing they like, as long as the conditions of dress are observed.
It is also important to note that the clothing of a Muslim woman should correspond to where she lives. For example, in Russia and in European countries, black clothing is not welcomed, as well as such types of clothing as a niqab or burqa, therefore, a Muslim woman should not wear such clothing in our society, so as not to attract the attention of others. If a Muslim woman lives in the territory of Arab countries and it is customary to wear a niqab or burqa there, then there is no problem, because on the contrary, their absence will attract attention.
In conclusion, I would like to note that a woman must always remember how valuable her body and her beauty are and how important it is to hide them from prying eyes. The purpose of wearing a hijab is concealment and modesty, and not to show off one's beauty with this clothing.
